Use Your Academic Skills in an Editing or Coaching Business You Control

If academia has left you burned out, fed up, and ready to burn it all down, you’re not alone—the system is broken.

I get messages like this EVERY day.

You love the teaching and research, but you’re tired of dealing with toxic colleagues, senseless paper rejections, and doing endless unpaid labor disguised as “service.”

Deep down, you know you have the talent and skills to build the life you’ve always wanted—one that lets you live where you want, make your own schedule, take real vacations, and get paid well.

But the academy has convinced you that that’s not possible. That you’ll never survive without the job title they give you.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Here’s what I believe:

YOU ARE MEANT FOR MORE

In 2019, I was a tenure-track professor doing everything right: excellent teaching evals, several peer-reviewed publications, and devoted to my students, department, and college.

But behind the scenes, I was working 7 days a week and on the brink of collapse.

In my free audio series, I share my story of leaving academia, moving across the country, and growing a 6-figure editing and coaching business—working just 25 hours a week from my cozy home office in Maine. 🦞

I also give you the exact roadmap to help you build your own profitable and rewarding academic business with the skills you already have.

Every time you edit a colleague’s paper, mentor a graduate student, or review a manuscript—that’s work that professional editors and coaches get paid real money to do!

Dissertation copy edit?
50k words x 4 cents per word = $2,000

Academic book coaching?
12 sessions over 6 months = $2,000-$3,000

Job market workshop?
$100 per person x 10 people (minimum) = $1,000

In my free audio series, you’ll learn:

☑️ What academic editing and coaching involve—and whether they’re right for you
☑️ How to land your first paying client, even if you’ve never run a business
☑️ How to package and price the skills you already have

You’ll also hear from my community members who:

Landed their first clients during their first 60 days in business
⭐ Have been fully booked since they finished the course
⭐ Traded their toxic workplace for a WFH life where they get to be their own boss

🎓 Over 100 scholars, educators, and recent PhDs have already traded burnout for a business they love.

FOUNDER, ACADIA EDITING + COACHING

I was a tenure-track political science professor who loved teaching and research but got fed up with incompetent administrators, plagiarizing students, and toting my laptop along on every family vacation. In 2019, after 12 years in academia, I stopped waiting for things to get better and left. My family and I moved to Maine, bought our dream home, and now I work 25 hours a week and make double what I did as an assistant professor.

I created this podcast and my program, Becoming an Academic Editor or Coach, because I believe every academic and educator deserves to have the life they were promised—one with a flexible schedule, a comfortable income, and the ability to do the work we love.
